Rowing, wheelbarrows and Funky Monkeys - oh my!

Even the Wizard of Oz could not have foreseen the excitement and family entertainment planned for Saturday 8th September at Grantham St, for the annual Gallagher Great Race.

"The Funky Monkeys are coming to the races," announced Rebecca Meuli, Entertainment organiser for the Gallagher Great Race. "Dizzy dog and the whole crew will be performing on the river bank stage."

The Funky Monkeys have been labelled New Zealand's very own musical super-group for kids. The energetic entertainers include Joe, Neil, Chris and Dizzy Dog and have said they are dedicated to bringing a whale of a time to children everywhere.

Along with The Funky Monkeys there will be ZM Wheelbarrow Races up Grantham St, a kid's zone complete with a pirate ship, mini jeeps and chair-o-plane, Presto the Clown and the Wai Taiko Drummers.

"We certainly have a fun filled day planned," says Ms Meuli. "There is something for all ages on and off the river. The entertainment will begin at 10am and will roll through to 2.30pm."

The Arrow International Charity Fun Run and Walk will be kicking off at 10am, with 100% of entry fees going to Hospice Waikato's Building Appeal, and the kids zone will also open at 10am.

In its sixth year the Gallagher Great Race will see the Waikato University Men's Crew challenge Harvard University (USA) for the Harry Mahon Trophy, and the Waikato University Women's Crew will take on Melbourne University.
