Charities to benefit from Great Race events

The Gallagher Great Race and King St Great Race Ball organisers have announced a third charity that will be supported over the next week by crews and community involved in the upcoming events.

A silent auction has now been arranged for the King St Great Race Ball for KidsCan Charitable Trust, with some fantastic items up for auction.

"KidsCan provide raincoats, shoes, and food to children in 68 low decile schools giving them a good start at school and in life," says Julie Helson, General Manager of KidsCan Charitable Trust.

The Trust is supported by Founding Patrons Doug Howlett and Ali Williams and makes a tangible difference for over 16,000 Kiwi kids each year.

The Harvard Crew also hit downtown Hamilton today, to sell Daffodils in support of the Cancer Society. The height of the rowers distinguished them from Hamilton residents and helped them to stand out in Centre Place.

The third charity to benefit this year from the Gallagher Great Race is Hospice Waikato with its building appeal. The Arrow International Great Race Charity Fun Run and Walk will be kicking off at 10am on Saturday 8th September from Grantham Street.

Proceeds from the fun run and walk goes completely to Hospice Waikato at a rate of $10 per entrant. Race organisers are hoping to reach 1,000 entrants so that a valuable contribution can be made to Hospice.
