US Ambassador down to support Harvard
Harvard University crew racing this weekend at the Gallagher Great Race will have a special guest cheering them on, with the US Ambassador, William McCormick, attending.Bill Gallagher, from Gallagher Group, will be hosting the Ambassador for the day. Mr Gallagher also has a special connection with the American team, having studied at Harvard Graduate Business School over a three year period.
"Knowing the US Ambassador is rooting for us is a great boost", says Nick Baker, Captain of the Harvard crew and a four year veteran of Harvard rowing.
Harvard University are set to challenge the University of Waikato Men's rowing 8s on the Waikato River and are determined to come away with a win and the Harry Mahon Memorial Trophy.
Harvard supporters will no doubt be out numbered by the Hamilton community, with over 15,000 supporters expected to line the Waikato River banks to cheer on the home side.
"This is our first year that Waikato students are back from holidays while the Gallagher Great Race is taking place", says Rob Hamill, one of the Event Directors.
"Because of this we are hoping they all come down in their red outfits and get behind their uni team."
The Gallagher Great Race Elite racing is due to kick off at 12noon on Saturday 8th September, with entertainment beginning at Grantham Street from 10am.
