Rowers dateless for ball

Get your glad rags on, girls - two of the Great Race's Harvard University rowing team are looking for a date for Saturday night's masquerade ball.

Toby Medaris and Phil Kaiser, both 23, want partners to accompany them to the ball, which follow's Hamilton's Gallagher Great Race between Harvard and Waikato universities.

Though the pair - together with the rest of the Harvard team - are focused on Saturday's 2pm race along the Waikato River, they're just as excited about the ball at Waikato University's Wel Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts.

"It'll be the biggest party I've ever been to," Kaiser said.

Kaiser, a Canadian from St Catherine's near Niagara Falls, believes he and his roommate for the past four years would make great company for the black-tie event and said he and Medaris had a lot to offer Waikato's young women.

"We're Harvard graduates," he joked.

He hoped his "charming foreign accent" would be a drawcard while Medaris said he could offer "free drinks" on the night.

"We're from different backgrounds so hopefully we're relatively interesting people," Medaris said.

Kaiser, who will soon be a medical student, hopes to take a "personable, athletic" date to the ball while Medaris, who is going on to do a masters in business studies at Oxford University, wants someone who is "fun and can hold a good conversation".

Originally from the Blue Mountains in Australia, Medaris believes the ball will be a great end to a fantastic trip.
