Photos of the Beijing Olympics are lost after a visiting Cambridge University rower's digital camera and team blazer were taken during the The Great Race Ball.
Canadian rower Rob Weitemeyer is hoping a public plea will prompt those responsible to return his treasured blazer and camera, taken from the event on Saturday night.
"It (the Canon camera) had all the photos of us preparing for the ball and all my parents' photos from the Beijing Olympics," Weitemeyer said. "So it is a bit of a loss."
The 26-year-old was hoping for a swift return of the black blazer. He leaves New Zealand on Monday.
Weitemeyer, who will race for his university during The Great Race along the Waikato River on Sunday, was having an "outstanding night" until he noticed his blazer missing about 2.30am.
It was last seen hanging on the back of his chair about 1.30am in the dining area of the Wel Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts at Waikato University. Weitemeyer suspects someone took the blazer by mistake, thinking it was theirs.
"From the back it just looks like a normal black jacket. But it has got a Rowing Canada crest on the left breast pocket in silver stitching.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of either item can email Weitemeyer on rob.weitemeyer@gmail.com or call the Waikato Times which will pass on a message.
