Waikato out for Great Race win against Oxford

New Zealand may have seen the last of George Bridgewater rowing in a black singlet, at least for while.

Bridgewater has gone on to read for an MBA at Oxford since his Olympic men's pair bronze medal. He also helped the university's crew win The Boat Race.

But he is reluctant to commit to a future in the sport, with jobs likely to be in the offing should he get his new degree.

Bridgewater says ultimately he would like to win an Olympic gold medal in London, which he has to weigh up objectively, if or when he comes back to rowing. He says it is unlikely he will ever scull for New Zealand, but could come back in a men's four.

Bridgewater sits his final exams within the next week at Oxford - no easy task in a tuxedo-like ensemble. He says it is quite a contrast to the pyjama-like pants he used to sit exams in at Waikato University.

Bridgewater is also now engaged to former New Zealand coxswain Rachel Goudie.

He will return to New Zealand representing Oxford against Waikato in the Great Race on September 27.
